THERISSOS
Therissο is a small village built on the foot of the White Mountains famous for its incredible wild beauty, its glorious history, but also its dairy farming and its good taverns with good traditional flavors. The glorious past and the reputation of the village is mostly due to the fact that Eleftherios Venizelos (a former eminent Greek prime minister) had his headquarters at Therissos when he declared the union of Crete with the rest of Greece. His house has been converted into a museum. To “Therissos” – you drive through a beautiful gorge but if you have time, you can continue further to Zourva and come down to Chania again via Meskla. This is a spectacular drive (if the atmosphere is clear and not too hazy).
